As most Phase One Residents know, the Bar-B-Que grill has been moved from behind the Club House to the new Picnic Area. At the same time the fact that the old Bar-B-Que was rusted and leaking came to the attention of the Board. As very few people actually use the grill the Board decided that it would be more fair to have a charcoal grill so that those that use the grill can supply their own charcoal. This would save the Association money for bottled gas, and this would save the Board from having to get bottled gas often requested by the same few that actually used the grill. Bob Oldani donated the time and labor to order, assemble, and anchor the new grill in the picnic area. A small patio, bench, and table was added soon after.
During the next monthly association meeting, the subject of individuals having gas grills was discussed. The Board decided that multiple grills could be a fire hazard.... especially if placed too closely to buildings. At this point, the Brooks and the Josephs volunteered to purchase, setup and supply a gas grill for common use in the picnic area. As this represented no expense to the Association, and the grill would remain in the picnic area... thus addressing the safety concern, the Board accepted the generous offer from the Brooks and the Josephs.
As a result, Phase One residents have a charcoal and a gas grill to use in the picnic area. This is for Phase One only and the Board reminds all to clean the grills after each use.

Phase One Residents are losing a great deal of talent. Bob and Mildred Oldani are moving a little North this month. As usual, the DIRECTORS of PHASE TWO refused to contribute their fair share of paving in the COMMON AREA. Filled with excuses, the DIRECTORS of Phase Two have FAILED to cooperate with the boards of BOTH Phase One and Phase Three.

It's not a secret that some people are having a slow time of selling Real Estate during this uncertain time. Some in Phase II tried to speed up the process by voting on a proposal for abandoning the 55+ rule that has been in effect since 1972. As such a change would have impacted all residents including those in Phases One and Three, it's also no secret that many were watching for the results of Phase Two's vote.
As in all votes.... some are disappointed and some are satisfied with the results. Apparently the majority of Phase Two residents chose to keep the 55+ rule. The majority of Phase One and Three breathed a sigh of relief. As several people told the Lamplighter, they purchased in Sandalfoot South because it was a 55+ community. They thought it would have been unfair as well as a mistake to open up the community to young families.

Sandalfoot South Phase One is very lucky to have so many community spirited neighbors. An example of this is Angelo and Grace Pentolino. Observing that there are many people that exercise by walking around the community, and noticing that there is no place to sit and rest..... Angelo and Grace have donated THREE cement benches to be placed throughout the community to assist those that want to sit and take a rest. Their generosity will help many neighbors to better enjoy their walking exercise for many years to come.

July 22nd 2008.
A dedicated "pin spot light" designed to illuminate flags is now working.
The Lamplighter notes several people observed the US Flag in front of Phase One's Club House did not have a spot light illuminating the flag at night. It's nice to see that people know proper flag etiquette and respect the US Flag.
The whole story is that the flag's Spot Light was ordered weeks before the flag was moved. After the flag pole was set in cement, the electricians were called to install and AIM the light. Apparently the flag was up two days before the new light was connected and working. The electricians have been at Sandalfoot South One for three days now processing several maintenance tasks. The Phase One Directors did ask the electricians to give the flag's light a priority.

From one of our Readers:
"It is with sadness that it has been reported that Bob O'Donnell from Phase
One has recently passed away. He and his wife Rose have been long time
residents of our community and he will be missed.
He will be remembered especially for his quick wit and sense of humor.
This past season when he wasn't feeling his best he always had a big smile
and loud Hello whenever our paths crossed.
I would like to express the condolences of our community to Rose and her
family at this time."

July 1st 2008.
The Lamplighter observed that the old "Ugly Directory Sign" is finally gone from the Front Entrance of Sandalfoot South. In addition, the Sandalfoot South Signs on both sides of the Front Entrance have been repaired and freshly painted.
Directors in Phase I hope to have their new Water Fountain in place by the end of July. The FOUNTAIN will be in the area where the old directory sign stood.

June 29th 2008.
A message to the Lamplighter speculates that it is possible that Phase II has not yet painted their buildings and did NOT participate in the new Directory Sign Project because Phase II is incurring a large expense in REPLACING the Fire Water Pipes that somebody had removed. Some report that it will cost the residents of Phase II up to $70,000 for the new pipes. Just out of curiosity, some ask why the old pipes were removed in the first place?
June 27 2008.
The Lamplighter has heard from many residents of Sandalfoot South that the new Directory Signs look good and better direct visitors to the addresses they seek.
In an act of "Neighborly Concern", BUILDINGS 10, 11, and 12 were listed on the new 24" X 36" signs even though the Directors of Phase II chose to NOT participate in this Community Improvement. The Lamplighter congratulates the DIRECTORS of Phase I and Phase III by showing concern for their neighbors in Phase II by listing Phase II buildings on the new signs.
It was also observed that Directors of Phase I personally assembled the INDIVIDUAL BUILDING SIGNS for Buildings 13, 14, and 15. They also dug the holes and mounted these new signs for their neighbors in Phase III. This is another good example of Neighborly Co-Operation so often missing in South Florida.

June 17 2008.
The Lamplighter has been told that after the new Emergency Vehicle Signs are in place, the old [ugly] MAP SIGN will be removed. Phase I will be adding a Water Fountain and Landscaping to this area. Phase One expects this to be a fine improvement to the "Curb Appeal" of our entire community.
******************
June 6 2008.
It has been observed by many, that Emergency Vehicles travel in circles at Sandalfoot South looking for the address of someone reported to be in need of help. Dangerous TIME is lost.
Emergency vehicles NEED to find their address quickly. The MAP of the Community at the entrance is not clear enough. The Lamplighter hears that most people think the Map Sign is Ugly besides being ineffective! The Lamplighter has been told that it is not unusual for people to meet Emergency Vehicles at the front entrance so that they can help ambulance drivers find the needed address as quickly as possible.
The directors of Phase One met with the directors of Phase II and Phase III to discuss this problem. Most of the directors knew of this concern. It was decided to buy new signs that will better direct ambulance drivers and others to the building number and address they seek. Phase III immediately approved the improvement. Phase I has ordered the signs and posts. The NEW SIGNS should be in place by the end of June 2008. The directors of Phase Two disappointed all by informing the other Phases that they were putting the SIGNS for Emergency Vehicles "On the back burner".
******************
Phase Three and Phase One have completed their Building Painting Projects. The Lamplighter sees a significant improvement to our community and congratulates all those involved in both Phase Three and Phase One for their fine work in this Painting Project. The Lamplighter hears that Phase Two is planning to paint their buildings fairly soon.

Now missing are TWO tables and Six benches at the POOL. The Lamplighter has not heard when and if the Dunes Country Club will replace the missing tables and benches. Residents with knowledge on this subject are asked to email the Lamplighter. We have been told that the POOL area does seem to be cleaner lately.
